Late 19th Century Turkish Oushak Carpet
The bold pattern is a creative adaptation of the 17th century Caucasian “Dragon” design, with giant palmettes, some beetle-shaped, within a broken lattice. The dragons gave departed, but rosettes, twigs, layered stepped lozenges and other odd motives have moved in. Wide border with a vine and two types of complete flowers much in the Persian Mahal style. Attractive design miscegenation.
