Early 19th Century Turkish Smyrna Oushak Carpet
This pale yellow medallion carpet is a direct descendant of classical Ottoman Oushaks with a hexagonal star-filled central panel and pointed stepped corners . Red stars are uniformly strewn all over the field. Eight patterned borders, including a red vine and simple flower main stripe, make a dense frame for this circa 1820s west Turkish carpet very much in the historic mode.
