19th Century Turkish Oushak Carpet
A red field with an orange tinge is the foil for an in and out palmette and coloudband pattern loosely adapted from classical 17th century Indo-Isfahan carpets. The pale green matching border has the same historical roots. The wide proportions are typically Ushak, however, and the lack of an underlying vinery results in a more free-floating pattern for this late 19th century western Anatolian carpet.
