Axminster, the premier English carpet company at this time, sometimes created pieces in Persian style, as in this Persian inspired in-and-out palmette pattern rug. The pattern is essentially allover although it has a larger central palmette as a subtle focus. The rust field goes almost to the edge with a very narrow border, almost a design afterthought.What a great carpet for an octagonal or round room.
