19th Century French Aubusson Carpet Napoleon III Period
The looms of Aubusson , southwest of Paris, were able to weave carpets of extraordinary size, and this one is perfect for the grand salon of your chateau. The rose ground displays elaborate garland filled , gilt scroll edged cartouches strongly reminiscent of the ormolu mounts of contemporary Louis-style furniture. The ivory border has floral bouquets within more interconnected cartouches edged with acanthus scrolls. The effect is feminine and yet expansive.
