18th Century French Aubusson Louis XVI Period Carpet
Louis XV owned this rug. Well, not really, but it certainly was made for a distinguished patron. This c. 1770, pre-Revolution, rug has a huge quadrilobe central medallion with swags and a small, inner sub-medallion rich in floral decor. There is no border, but the surrounding field is densely filled with acanthus volutes, floral quasi-car touches and leafy split arabesques. The tonality is on the light side, but the color range is wide. Feel like an aristocrat and live with this extraordinary antique carpet.
