Late 18th Century Central Asian Khotan Carpet

Rarely are East Turkestan carpets square. An allover repeat pastern of formal flower sprays neatly occupies the straw yellow field of this late 19th century rug. The main border is the Chinese rainbow wave, but the inner rams horn hook stripe and the outer narrow yellow line with a drawn out vine are Turkman from West Turkestan (Turkmenistan) again , the mixing of artistic influences along the Silk Road is evident.
